| Royal Society building closure | Following careful consideration of the current course of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the Royal Society has made the decision to implement a closure of our buildings to Fellows, staff, conferencing clients and other visitors. The buildings will remain closed until further notice.
We have taken this decision in the interests of our Fellows, staff, conferencing clients and visitors. Our programme of meetings and events is cancelled or postponed until summer, including the 2020 Summer Science Exhibition.
At the moment, we are planning for our Autumn programme to go ahead but given the fluidity of the situation, we will be closely monitoring Government advice.
Although our buildings are closed, the business of the Royal Society continues with staff working remotely, wherever possible. Information will continue to be posted on our website including for Fellows, Grant Holders, and Grant Applicants.
In the meantime, our thoughts go out to all those whose health is impacted here in the UK and around the world.
Read the statement from our President, Venki Ramakrishnan, issued in response to the Government’s announcement about restrictions and guidelines to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Grants update | In light of the evolving global health situation, we also wanted to update you on the Royal Society’s policies surrounding our grants programmes.
Please visit our grants information page which will be regularly updated with the latest developments.
The Society will continue to support excellent research and researchers in the UK and internationally. We will be aiming to minimise the impact of the coronavirus on funded activities as far as possible. We will work with award holders and host organisations to ensure that fair and appropriate support is in place.
For any queries, please contact the grants team via email, who will continue to provide you with the support and information you require when making grants applications and managing your awards.

Urgent call for Registered Reports: Covid-19 | Each of us has an important role to play in combating the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and this includes journals and Registered Reports (RRs). This week our journal Royal Society Open Science is announcing a special call for RR submissions that are relevant to any aspect of Covid-19 in any field, including but not limited to chemistry, biology, medicine, economics, and psychology.
All RRs are published open access (CC-BY) with accompanying open review and all article processing charges for these submissions will be automatically waived. To ensure that high quality protocols can be implemented as swiftly as possibly, the journal will strive to complete initial Stage 1 review within 7 days of receiving a submission. Please mention Covid-19 prominently in your Stage 1 manuscript title and cover letter, to assist the journal administrative team in expediting your submission.
We are also looking for reviewers. Please contact us if you are willing to review a Stage 1 RR in your field of expertise within 24-48 hours of accepting a review request. Questions should be directed via the editorial team or the Royal Society Open Science RRs Editor, Chris Chambers.

Sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (nCoV) outbreak | The Royal Society has signed a Wellcome statement on the subject of research findings and data relevant to the Covid-19 outbreak.
We are one of several signatories to this statement and our collective aim is to ensure that the relevant research and data are shared rapidly and openly in order to inform the worldwide public health response and to help save lives. We have compiled a special collection of papers and theme issues likely to be relevant to the outbreak.
